Via Labicana, corner of Piazza del Colosseo
The Ludus Magnus was built in the valley between the Esquilino and the Celio. The remains of the complex were discovered in 1937, but only 20 years later excavations were terminated. The four-sided portico, 100 m per side, is formed by the outside rooms to be used by the gladiators and as services for the performances. A small cavea for a strict number of people surrounded the ellipsoidal arena.
